June 13th

Today is Megan's birthday! We made sure to make her feel special all day! We started the day off with going to a village for lunch. The tribe wanted to welcome us with a big feast. They actually slaughtered a goat for us. Some sick people (nearly all of them actually) chose to watch the slaughtering.... while a few of us stayed with the children and distracted ourselves from the gore.

After braving ourselves through the feast in a fly-infested hut, we went out to a couple different schools. Later on in the afternoon, we went to a church for young adults. We shared stories with them and they shared with us a little. What I loved the most about the service was worship. there were no instruments, but just singing. Before we started, the pastor told us just to close our eyes and lift our hands. It was very simple, yet so powerful. I wish churches in the US would worship that way sometimes too.

The family had a baby goat. Apparently they let the goat live to one year until they choose to slaughter it. This poor sweet goat has no idea.

Blowing bubbles for the kids

Some of the team actually helping the men skin the goat. Corey with his YOLO (You only live once) sign that justifies his involvement.

We decided that this goat belongs to Megan for her birthday.

Tearing through the goat.

This is Ben... he thought it was be hilarious to be a cyclops. They fed the eyes to the dogs.

We went to a preschool and did puppets for the munchkins. My arm hurt so bad.

Some of the preschoolers. They probably had never seen white people before.

Selah and I. She was actually pretty frightened of us. I thought she was adorable.

The team with the kids and the teachers. We had them color on pictures.

Bishop James, Moses, and Ben bought Megan her own cake. How thoughtful of them! The cakes in Africa are different than the ones we have at home, but both are sweet!
